ORANGEBURG, SC – South Carolina State held the first of 15 spring football workouts Monday, ready to get back to work with a purpose.
Head coach Buddy Pough, who is going into his 8th season at his alma mater, says last year's outright MEAC championship and first playoff appearance since 1982 showed his players what they are capable of. Pough adds his team appears eager to prove they can do better than last year.
Monday night's workout was strictly a teaching-type practice. Players were only in helmets and shorts, and Coach Pough says they only installed a small portion of the plays the team will use.
SC State will take Tuesday off before holding its second workout Wednesday night at 8 p.m. A third workout will be held Friday at 4 p.m. and the first scrimmage is set for Saturday at 11 a.m.
