NEW YORK (AP) -- The recession's effect on free agency in baseball can be seen quite readily in Andy Pettitte's new deal with the Yankees.
After making $16 million last season and rejecting an earlier $10 million offer, Pettitte and the Yankees have come to terms on a one-year, $5.5 million contract that brings the left-hander back to New York. He can earn as much as $6.5 million more in incentives if he pitches 210 innings and doesn't land on the disabled list.
Pettitte joins a projected starting rotation featuring CC Sabathia, A.J. Burnett, Chien-Ming Wang and Joba Chamberlain.
