COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- The athletics department at the University of South Carolina is committing $15 million over 15 years toward the university's academic programs.
Athletic director Eric Hyman and university President Harris Pastides announced the agreement Monday.
Hyman says the decision comes because of a lucrative 15-year contract that the Southeastern Conference entered into with ESPN and CBS in September.
Hyman says the broadcast deal gives South Carolina's athletics department an opportunity to help the university.
