(AP) -- CHARLOTTE, N.C.-- The Carolina Panthers' already thin receiving corps has taken another hit.
Jason Carter was placed on injured reserve Monday after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee on Saturday against Washington.
The Panthers also released cornerback Curtis Deloatch and waived defensive end Casper Brinkley, tight end Chris Conklin and quarterback Lester Ricard to get to the 75-player limit ahead of Tuesday's deadline.
Carter had impressed in training camp, and returned punts while Ryne Robinson was sidelined with a knee injury.
Star receiver Steve Smith is suspended for the first two games for punching teammate Ken Lucas at practice. Receiver D.J. Hackett has been sidelined for most of training camp because of a toe injury.
