Powerful bats deliver USC road win over The Citadel

CHARLESTON, SC (WACH) - Fifth-ranked South Carolina blasted three home runs and freshman left-hander Jack Wynkoop allowed just two runs to earn his fourth win of the year in a 9-5 victory over The Citadel Riley Park Tuesday evening.

The Gamecocks improved to 18-3 with the win while The Citadel fell 14-8 on the season.

Grayson Greiner drilled a two-run homer in the third inning, and LB Dantzler added a solo shot in the fourth to deliver his team-leading seventh home run of the season. Joey Pankake hit a two-run home run in the ninth to help lead the Gamecocks to a win. Both Greiner and Pankake drove in three runs.

Wynkoop is now 4-0 on the season. He struck out five batters and walked just one in 5.1 innings of work. Senior lefty Tyler Webb pitched two perfect innings of relief racking up two strikeouts to earn his eighth save of the season.

"I'm proud of our team," said South Carolina head coach Chad Holbrook. "We played well for the most part. We had some quality at-bats today, a lot of guys contributed. The Citadel has a good offensive team. It was a good win for us on the road."

South Carolina gets back to conference action this weekend when they the team hosts Arkansas for a three-game series. First pitch for Friday's opener is set for 7:30pm at Carolina Stadium.
