Columbia (WACH)- Colby Holmes pitched seven innings of one-run ball and the Gamecocks pushed across four runs in the fifth inning to clinch the series against Tennessee 6-1 Sunday at Carolina Stadium.  The Gamecocks improve to 23-9 on the season, and 5-7 in the SEC.

Holmes (4-0) allowed just four hits and struck out six in his longest outing of the season.  Evan Beal pitched the eighth and ninth to earn his fifth save.

The game was scoreless until USC broke it open in the fifth.  The Gamecocks loaded the bases and pushed across their first run when Tanner English drew a walk that scored Joey Pankake.  Evan Marzilli added a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.  Adam Matthews and Christian Walker made it 4-0 with RBI singles.

USC will be back on the diamond Tuesday when the Citadel Bulldogs come to Carolina Stadium.  First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
