Clemson evens series with Alabama

CLEMSON, S.C. -- (AP) -- Clemson scored six runs in the first inning and went on to a 19-5 victory over Alabama on Sunday night, forcing a deciding third game in the NCAA super regional.

The Tigers (42-23) got five hits and two walks while batting around in the opening inning against Crimson Tide starter Adam Morgan (7-5).

Scott Weismann (8-2) allowed nine hits and three earned runs in six innings for the Tigers.

Brad Miller hit a grand slam to cap a nine-run sixth for Clemson, and John Hinson and Richie Shaffer also homered as the Tigers finished with 20 hits against six Alabama pitchers.

Jake Smith and Ross Wilson homered for the Crimson Tide (42-24).

Hinson gave Clemson a 4-0 lead with a two-run single and Spencer Kieboom added a two-run double in the first.

Jeff Schaus and Miller each had four hits for the Tigers.
