Columbia firefighters fight muscular dystrophy

COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Brett and Jacob Rhoad were able to spend some quality time with men who get are used to fighting fire and saving the lives of others.

The Columbia Fire Department is gearing up for their annual boot drive to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

"We go out to different intersections and we have a boot drive, it's for a great cause and there are a lot of kids that are effected by this disease and we want to try to help find a cure for it," said Chief Battallion Mickey Folsom.

The fourteen year old twins were diagnosed with muscular dystrophy when they were four, and their mother Julie said the Muscular Dystrophy Association has played a major role in their families lives.

Julie Rhoad said the MDA refered them to doctors, clinics and has even help put her in touch with other parents who also have children with muscular dystrophy.

Last year the firefighter's raised more than $100,000 for the MDA.

They will start collecting money Wednesday March 20th through the 23rd at the following intersections:

South Beltline & Rosewood

Leesburg & Garners Ferry
