COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Freshman Avery McCall threw three first-half touchdowns to lead Dillon to a 21-6 victory over Fairfield Central on Friday night for the Class 2A, Division I State Championship.

The Wildcats (13-1) won their third state championship in five years.

McCall, who took over the starting job in the final game of the regular season, opened the scoring with a 23-yard pass to Ereon Hayes with 7:05 remaining in the first quarter. He added a 33-yarder to Anthony Blue with 6:36 left in the half, then threw an 18-yard strike to Ezra Lighty 29 seconds before intermission.

McCall threw for 128 yards and Blue had 202 yards rushing as Dillon had 429 yards total offense.

Fairfield Central (11-3) got a 17-yard scoring run from Damian Bell in the first quarter but three interceptions — including one in the end zone — stopped scoring threats. The Griffins had 277 yards total offense.
