COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) - Harry Parone Stadium at Spring Valley High School has been selected as the winner of a national award.

The stadium has been chosen as the winner of the Pioneer Athletics 2012 Fields of Excellence Award. That honor recognizes the work of the field maintenance crew which is composed of Stanley Ford, Larry Medlin, Milton Herbert and Billy Petoskey.

"We are proud of our team. We are widely recognized for having the best maintained playing fields in South Carolina," said Jack Carter, Richland School District Two's executive director of operations.

Any institution or organization that regularly maintains an outdoor athletic field can apply. The entries are then reviewed by a panel of judges. According to the Pioneer Athletics website the annual award "salutes the men and women who work hard to make game day a special day by producing an exceptional field of play."

Harry Parone Stadium is one of 73 winners around the country chosen for 2012 Fields of Excellnence award. It was the not the only stadium in South Carolina to earn this year's distinction. D.W. Daniel High School in Chester, and Porter-Gaud in Charleston were also named 2012 award winners.
