COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) -
The No. 5 Gamecocks improve to 14-2 on the year while the loss drops USC-Upstate to 10-5.
Freshman left-hander Wynkoop pitched 2.2 innings of relief, to pick up his third win of the year. Wynkoop allowed one run on four hits and struck out one batter. Senior right-hander Patrick Sullivan pitched 3.1 scoreless innings of relief earning his first save of the year.
USC-Upstate jumped on starter Forrest Koumas early, building a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Koumas eventually settled in and struck out three batters in three innings of work.
South Carolina answered the Spartans' early scoring with three runs in the bottom of the second to take a 3-2 lead. n a RBI single off the bat of Iskenderian. Designated hitter Brison Celek came up with a bases clearing double in the bottom of the fourth to extend the Gamcocks' lead to four runs. Celek went 1-for-4 on the evening and drove in three runs.
South Carolina is back in action Wednesday night when they host Davidson. First pitch is set for 7 pm at Carolina Stadium. It is South Carolina's final tune-up before opening Southeastern Conference play at Missouri on Friday.
