CLEMSON, SC (WACH) - Leighton Daniels scored on Clay Altman's sacrifice fly in the 11th inning to lift Winthrop to a 3-2 win over Clemson at Doug Kingsmore Stadium Wednesday afternoon.

The Eagles improved to 3-5, while the Tigers fell to 5-2 on the season.

In the top of the 11th inning, Altman hit a flyball to shallow right field with a man on third. Steven Duggars's throw home beat the runner by several steps, but catcher Kevin Bradley could not handle the ball allowing the go-ahead run to score.

In the bottom of the 11th inning, Clemson's Steve Wilkerson led off with a line-drive single to center. The next two batters were retired and Wilkderson stole second bas to put himself in scoring position. Jay Baum then came up and grounded out to third to end the game.

Clemson is back in action this weekend with a three-game series against No. 7 South Carolina. The series opens Friday night at Doug Kingsmore Stadium before moving to Greenville's Fluor Field for game two. The series wraps up Sunday at Carolina Stadium.
