FORT VALLEY, GA – Fort Valley State jumped out to a 23-0 first-half lead and cruised to a 33-10 victory over Benedict Saturday in a SIAC football matchup.
The 0-4 Tigers fell behind 10-0 within the opening minutes of the game and never could overcome the early deficit. Benedict dropped its opening SIAC game, while Fort Valley State improves to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the SIAC.
“There were too many mistakes, too many turnovers, too many big plays,” Tigers head coach James Woody said. “We can't win football games if we don't clean this up. The kids are still fighting, they're not giving up. But we've got to learn how to not turn over the football.”
Benedict is back on the road next week, traveling to face Miles College, the defending SIAC champions. The Golden Bears crushed Albany State 41-6 on Saturday in a rematch of last year's SIAC championship game.
