RICHMOND, VA - Virginia Union capitalized on three Benedict College turnovers to take a 28-7 victory over the Tigers in the 2012 season opener for both teams Saturday night.

The Panthers scored a pair of field goals and a touchdown after Benedict turnovers to spoil the Tigers' season opener.  Virginia Union also scored its first touchdown on a 36-yard pass on a fourth-down-and-eight play in the first quarter.

BC scored its lone touchdown in the second quarter, when backup quarterback Christopher Thomas connected with Chris Cooler on a 39-yard touchdown pass.  The Tigers trailed 12-7 at halftime but were outscored 16-0 in the second half.

The Tigers have a short turnaround, playing their home opener on Thursday night in a nationally-televised game against Bowie State.
