Blowfish advance to second round of Petitt Cup playoffs

The Columbia Blowfish advanced to the second round of the Petitt Cup playoffs with a 5-3 win over Wilmington Sunday night.

COLUMBIA- The Columbia Blowfish topped the Wilmington Sharks 5-3 Sunday night at Historic Capital City Stadium. With the win the Blowfish advance to the second round of the 2012 Petitt Cup Playoffs. When the Blowfish will be back at Capital City Stadium and who they will play has yet to be determined.

The Blowfish got on the board first Sunday night scoring two runs in the bottom of the second. Jarrod Reed hit a two RBI double to left centerfield to score Zach Smith and Tre-Von Johnson. The lead would stand until the top of the fifth.

In the top of the fifth the Sharks tied the game at two against Blowfish starter Zack Russell-Myers. Russell-Myers went five innings giving up two runs on four hits while striking out five. Russell-Myers would get the win for the Blowfish.

The Blowfish retook the lead in the bottom half of the fifth when Federico Castagnini scored on a wild pitch. The Blowfish took a 5-2 lead in the sixthscoring two more runs against the Sharks pitching staff. Tre-Von Johnson hit an RBI single to left to score Joshua Miller. The Blowfish scored their final run on a Zach Smith double to the right field wall scoring Johnson.

The Blowfish again got solid relief work from their bullpen. Joel Seddon went two innings giving up one run on three hits while striking out three. Adam Albers then pitched the eighth striking out one. Joshua Knab pitched the ninth getting his second save of the postseason.

Blaze Tart who pitched five and a third innings for the Sharks took the loss after giving up five runs, three earned, on nine hits while striking out one. Wesley Hatley pitched the final two and two third innings giving up just one hit while striking out two.
