OMAHA, NE (WACH) - Facing a do-or-die game Wednesday at the College World Series, the Gamecocks will give the ball to a freshman.

Left-hander Jordan Montgomery (Sumter High School) will make his second start of the postseason when he takes the mound against Kent State (8pm eastern, ESPN) in an elimination game.  South Carolina's 22-game NCAA Tournament win streak ended Monday night with a 2-1 loss to Arkansas.

Montgomery is 5-1 on the season with a 4.05 ERA.   Kent State counters with Tyler Skulina, a sophomore right-hander who is 11-2 with a 3.63 ERA.
