CLEMSON - Thomas Brittle blooped a one-out single to right field in the 12th inning to score Tyler Slaton giving Clemson a 7-6 victory over N.C. State in front of 4,964 fans at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Friday night. The Tigers improved to 20-15 overall and 9-7 in the ACC. The Wolfpack fell to 22-10 overall and 9-7 in ACC play.
Scott Firth (3-0) tossed 6 1/3 strong innings in relief to earn the win. He gave up two hits, three runs (one earned), and three walks with four strikeouts. Starter Kevin Brady allowed four hits, three runs, and three walks with four strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings pitched.
Anthony Tzamtzis (3-3), the last of four Wolfpack pitchers, suffered the loss. He yielded three hits, one run, and three walks with five strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings pitched.
Brittle went 4-for-7 with two RBI and three runs to lead Clemson, who outhit N.C. State 12-6. Richie Shaffer went 3-for-3 with a double, two RBI, and three walks.
Clemson and N.C. State will play game-two of the three-game series on Saturday at 12:00 PM. The game will be televised live by Regional Sports Network.
