COLUMBIA (WACH) - USC used strong pitching to sweep a Saturday doubleheader from VMI, 3-2 and 13-1 at Carolina Stadium.

In the first game, Dante Rosenberg went 2-for-4 with two doubles including a game-winning RBI double in the bottom of the 6th inning and pitchers Matt Price and Ethan Carter combined for 13 strikeouts.  Carter picked up the win in relief.

In game two, USC's offense exploded for 16 hits.  L.B. Dantzler blasted a three-run homer and T.J. Costen added a two-run shot as five players had multi-hit games.  Starter Colby Holmes pitched five scoreless innings to get the win.  Holmes and five other Carolina pitchers combined for 12 strikeouts.

The Gamecocks (3-0) return to action Friday at 3 p.m. to begin a three-game series with Elon at Carolina Stadium.
