COLUMBIA (WACH) - Despite 17 points from senior Malik Cooke, the Gamecocks fell to 2-10 in the SEC (10-16 overall) with a 68-58 loss to LSU Saturday in Colonial Life Arena.
Justin Hamilton led LSU with 18 points.
LSU had a seven-point lead cut to 38-36 when South Carolina freshman Brenton Williams was called for a technical for hanging on the rim after his breakaway dunk. Andre Stringer made two foul shots and the Tigers scored three consecutive baskets inside to rebuild the lead.
Other than Cooke, no one else on South Carolina reached double figures. Bruce Ellington, the team's second leading scorer, was only 3-of-12 shooting for six points -- four fewer than his average.
USC plays at Vanderbilt Wednesday.
