Stephen Garcia

COLUMBIA (WACH) -- It seems USC senior quarterback Stephen Garcia is off the team for good.
Officials with the University of South Carolina Athletics Department say Garcia was dismissed from the Gamecock football team Tuesday.
Athletics Director Eric Hyman says being a student-athlete at the school is a privilege, not a right.
"We remind all of our student-athletes that there are consequences for their actions," Hyman said in a release. "For Stephen to return to and remain with the football squad this fall, we agreed on several established guidelines. Unfortunately, he has not been able to abide by those guidelines and has therefore forfeited his position on the roster."
Hyman then wished Garcia luck in the future.
Garcia finishes his career the week after head coach Steve Spurrier started Conner Shaw for only the second time this season, pushing Garcia to the sidelines.
The quarterback with a lengthy history at USC ends with a total 7,598 passing yards, completing over 57 percent of passes with 47 touchdowns and 41 interceptions. Stats place him as the third QB in school history to throw for more than 7,500 yards. He leaves with a 20-14 record as starting quarterback.
Garcia is no stranger to trouble. He has been suspended multiple times over his years at USC, mostly partying and drinking violations. Earlier this year, the highly touted quarterback was suspended for allegedly showing up to a team function intoxicated.
