SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) -- DeAngelo Williams says he saw enough changes for the better with the Carolina Panthers that he didn't want to leave.

The Panthers star running back re-signed with the club last week soon after the NFL lockout ended. He says he had several similar offers from other clubs, but wanted to be part of a turnaround he sees ahead.

Williams rushed for at least 1,100 yards in 2008 and 2009 before an injured right foot sidelined him for most of last season. With the Panthers struggling through a 2-14 season, many figured a healthy Williams would explore opportunities to play with a contender.

Instead, Williams says he was happy with Carolina's direction. He can't practice until Thursday, per NFL rules. That hasn't stopped him from learning Carolina's new offense.
