COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina first baseman Christian Walker has undergone surgery on his injured left wrist.
The hero from the 2011 College World Series underwent surgery on Tuesday. Walker posted a picture of his wrapped hand and wrist on Twitter, saying the surgery went well but that he was unlikely to go to the pool anytime soon.
Walker injured a bone in his wrist in South Carolina's CWS game against Virginia. He continued playing despite the pain and went 4-fot-9 as the Gamecocks defeated Florida in two straight games to win their second consecutive national championship.
Walker had been picked for the USA Baseball Collegiate national team, but the injury is expected to keep him from playing.
