Sumter High School won the Class 4A state baseball championship Friday night, defeating Byrnes High School 2-0 at Gilbert High School.
The Gamecocks won the best-of-three title series two games to one. Sumter won 11-0 Monday, Byrnes responded with a 3-2 win Wednesday, setting up Friday's winner-take-all game.
Sumter's Jordan Montgomery (headed to USC) outdueled Byrnes's Daniel Gossett (Clemson) on the mound.
The Gamecocks scored both of their runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Bruce Caldwell singled in Jeremy Buckner, and Taylor McFadden scored on a wild pitch.
