GAINESVILLE, FL (WACH) – The Gamecock baseball team took down the top ranked Florida Gators 4-3 Sunday afternoon in Gainesville to clinch the three-game SEC baseball series.
The Gators got things started in the second inning on a RBI base hit by Cam Washington, who scored Brian Johnson to put Florida up 1-0.
Later in the second and up 2-0, Freshman Zack Powers singled to drive in Washington to give the Gators the 3-0 lead.
The game would stay locked at 3-0 until the top of the sixth, when the Gamecocks got their first run of the game off of a Christian Walker RBI, scoring Adam Matthews.
Later in the sixth, Adrian Morales knocked a chopper to third base for a RBI ground out to score Peter Mooney.
Still in the sixth, Jake Williams tied the game-up 3-3 when he singled up the middle scoring Walker.
In the top of the eighth, Morales drew a walk with bases loaded to pick up the game winning RBI.
The win improves Carolina to 18-5 and 4-2 in the SEC.
The Gamecocks return to action on Wednesday when they host the Citadel at Carolina Stadium.
