COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Jordan Roper scored 24 points and Irmo won its first state championship in 16 years with a 79-70 victory over Ridge View in the Class 4A Boys' basketball state championship on Friday night.

The Yellow Jackets (27-3) won their fourth state championship under Tim Whipple.

They last won in 1994 and 1995 and hadn't played in the state title game since losing in 1996.

The two Region 4-4A rivals had already played twice this year with Irmo winning both regular-season contests by 19 points. The championship was much the same.

All five Irmo starters scored in the opening quarter, which ended with the Yellow Jackets leading 21-10. The closest the Blazers (20-8) got the rest of the way was when they pulled within seven points in the second quarter and again late in the fourth.
