SC State Earns Third Straight Trip to FCS Playoffs; Bulldogs Capture At-Large Berth

ORANGEBURG, SC – South Carolina State will be making its third consecutive trip to the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) playoffs. The Bulldogs received an at-large berth Sunday (Nov. 21) and will meet Georgia Southern at Statesboro, Ga. Nov. 27. Kickoff for the contest has been set for 2 p.m.

SC State, which closed out its regular season with a 48-3 win over MEAC foe North Carolina A&T on Saturday at Greensboro, finished the year 9-2 overall and was 7-1 in the MEAC, tying both Bethune-Cookman and Florida A&M for the 2010 title. Bethune-Cookman, who earned the league’s automatic berth to the playoffs, will host New Hampshire Dec. 4 after receiving a first-round bye.

The Bulldogs will be making their fifth overall appearance in the FCS playoffs. SC State earned the MEAC’s automatic berth in 1981 and 1982 and also in 2008 and 2009. This year marks’ the first time the Bulldogs have received an at-large berth.

SC State has a 2-4 record in the playoffs. The Bulldogs defeated Tennessee and Furman in first-round games in 1981 and 1982, respectively, before losing in the next round. In both 2008 and 2009, SC State lost first-round games to Appalachian State.
