COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Wofford needs just one more win to achieve its goal of proving that the Terriers are still among the best Football Championship Subdivision teams in the country.
Wofford goes to Appalachian State on Saturday. The winner gets the Southern Conference's automatic bid to the playoffs. A Terriers' win gives them the outright title and ends the Mountaineers run of five straight conference crowns. Appalachian State can ensure at least a share of its record-tying sixth title with a victory.
Also Saturday, if Coastal Carolina beats Liberty, the Chanticleers will be in the thick of the FCS playoff hunt despite starting the season 1-4.
In other games Saturday involving South Carolina's FCS teams Furman travels to Elon and Presbyterian is at Charleston Southern.
