RENTON, Wash. (AP) - The Seattle Seahawks will play the New York Giants on Sunday without quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, who is sidelined with a concussion.

Seattle coach Pete Carroll made the announcement Thursday that Hasselbeck would not be ready to play.

Charlie Whitehurst will get his first NFL start against one of the top defenses in the league.

Hasselbeck suffered a concussion last week in Seattle's 33-3 loss at Oakland.

Carroll said Monday and again Wednesday that he hoped Hasselbeck would be cleared and able to play against the Giants.

Instead, it'll be Whitehurst getting the nod.

He was brought to Seattle in a trade with San Diego in the offseason, but has never thrown a pass in a regular season game.
