Gamecocks win, Cooper prevails past Pomeranz

The teams play at 3 p.m. Saturday in game two of the series.

COLUMBIA (WACH) - USC right-hander Blake Cooper held Mississippi scoreless, leading the No. 10 Gamecocks to a 5-0 win over the 14th ranked Rebels at Carolina Stadium.

Cooper threw nine shutout innings Friday night and struck out 10, a career high for a complete game shutout.

Gamecocks scored all of their five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.

The teams play at 3 p.m. Saturday in game two of the series. It will be televised live on SportSouth.
