DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — A minor league pitcher will learn whether he gets probation or prison for injuring a fan when he threw a baseball during an on-field brawl last year in Ohio.

Montgomery County Common Pleas Judge Connie Price scheduled sentencing for Thursday afternoon in Dayton. On Tuesday, she convicted Julio (HOO'-lee-oh) Castillo (kuh-STEE'-yoh) of felonious assault causing serious physical injury.

The 22-year-old pitcher faces up to eight years in prison. The judge could give the native of the Dominican Republic probation.

She acquitted Castillo in the non-jury trial of a second charge of felonious assault with a deadly weapon.

Castillo has been benched as a player in the Chicago Cubs farm system while the major league team awaits the final outcome of the trial.
