COLUMBIA, S.C. -- South Carolina baseball coach Ray Tanner wants a "Garnet Army" of his own.
On Thursday, Tanner said he likes what he's seen of the Gamecocks student section at men's basketball games, which coach Darrin Horn dubbed the "Garnet Army."
When basketball wraps up, Tanner would love for that crowd to move from the Colonial Life Arena to South Carolina's newly opened baseball stadium. Tanner told the Associated Press, "They've done some really good things at basketball."
Tanner's more immediate issue is a weekend showdown with USC's arch-rival Clemson. Gamecock sophomore right-hander Sam Dyson will get the start for Saturday's first game up at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
This year's series has a slight different feel too it. Clemson enters the game ranked as high as No. 19 in some polls, while USC is unranked. Clemson also starts a more experienced lineup.
