COLUMBIA (WACH) - We've got more - Marcus Lattimore that is. You can bet that’s what Gamecock fans are saying after the true freshman’s huge performance in South Carolina’s SEC opener against the Georgia Bulldogs.
In his SEC debut - Lattimore rushed for 182-yards and scored two touchdowns to help USC beat UGA for the first time in two years.
Before a 24-yard gain near the end of the fourth quarter - the entire Gamecock student section was chanting Lattimore's name.
“Ya I heard them, I heard them chanting my name and I was real tired. But that got me up. I was really running off of adrenaline on that drive cause I was dead. We're taking it one game at a time you know Cliff, Spence - all our leaders they know that was just one game, that was just one win. It was nothing. We got plenty more games to come. We got a tough SEC schedule. We’ve got to travel, and we’ve got Furman next week so we got to get ready for them," said Lattimore.
Gamecock Head Coach Steve Spurrier had words of praise for his freshman sensation.
“Obviously Marcus is a very, very good running back. He can hit a crack, he can break tackles, he holds on to the ball,” said Spurrier.
The Gamecocks 17-6 win marks the first time Georgia Head Coach Mark Richt has ever lost at Williams-Brice Stadium during his time at UGA.
USC now has a week to prepare for Furman.
That game is at 7 pm on Saturday in Columbia.
