COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH/AP) -- Ellington has played football and basketball the past two seasons, moving to the court once the Gamecocks were done with their bowl game. The junior was South Carolina's leading receiver last fall and caught the game-winning, 32-yard touchdown pass in the Gamecocks 33-28 victory over Michigan in the Outback Bowl in January.

South Carolina's football team began spring workouts last week and it's possible Ellington could join them for workouts should South Carolina's basketball season end this week.

"Right now I'm not even thinking about football. I'm just ready to take (senior forward) Lakeem (Jackson) out in his senior year with some wins," said Ellington.

Ellington has started 18 of 22 games as a 5-foot-9 point guard with the basketball team and has averaged 9.7 points.

Gamecocks basketball coach Frank Martin says he won't speak with Ellington about future plans until after the season. South Carolina faces Mississippi State on Wednesday.

In the past, Ellington has hinted that he would only focus on one sport at some point.

"He's been hinting that for three straight years. Last time I checked he's played both every year. I think Bruce likes to have some fun with you guys (the media)," said Martin. "Bruce is a competitor. He's a special kid in both sports. When the season ends I'm going to fully encourage him to keep doing what he's doing because not too many people can do that and that's shows us how special he is."
