COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH/AP) -- Three pitchers combined Sunday for the first no hitter for South Carolina in nearly 37 years.
Starter Colby Homes went six innings with three strikeouts and a walk, Forrest Koumas went two innings with three walks and a strikeout and Josh Knab let no one on base as he picked up the final three outs as South Carolina beat Albany 14-1 in the first game of a doubleheader.
Albany got its only run in the fourth inning on a leadoff walk, a throwing error and a sacrifice fly. The Great Danes (0-4) led 1-0 going into the bottom of the fifth before the Gamecocks (4-1) scored nine.
Sunday was the first South Carolina no-hitter since March 1975 when Ray Lavigne led South Carolina to an 8-0 win over George Mason.
In the second game of Sunday afternoon's doubleheader South Carolina beat Albany 6-4 to complete the series sweep of the Great Danes.
Pitcher Nolan Belcher picked up the win, striking out seven batters and giving up eight hits. Senior Tyler Webb record the final two outs of the game to record his second save of the season.
The Gamecocks are back in action Tuesday afternoon when they play Furman at 4pm at Carolina Stadium.
