COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) - Three Clemson football players have been invited to this month's NFL combine, including star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins.
The annual event measures players' mental and physical abilities to determine if they will be a good fit at the NFL level.
Last month, Hopkins announced he would forgo his senior season at Clemson. The Central native is coming off one of the best seasons in Clemson history for a receiver. He had 82 catches for 1,405 yards and 18 touchdowns. Hopkins set ACC records for touchdown receptions in a season and consecutive games with at least one touchdown reception with 10.
Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney supported Hopkins' decision, but expressed concern the receiver was taking a risk by entering the draft without being a sure-fire first round pick. At the time, draft analysts projected Hopkins as a second or third-round selection, where the money drops off considerably from first-round salaries.
In recent weeks, several mock draft services have projected Hopkins as a late first-round pick.
