Clemson pitcher Scott Firth was named to the NCBWA Stopper-of-the-Year Award Watch list Friday.

CLEMSON, S.C. (WACH) - Clemson pitcher Scott Firth was named to the NCBWA Stopper-of-the-Year Award Watch list Friday.

The right-hander is one of 75 pitchers named to the watch list. The award is give to the top relief pitcher in the nation. The ninth winner of the award will be announced in Omaha on June 15.

Firth was one of Clemson's top pitchers last season, compiling a record of 4-0, and notching a team-best three saves. The senior had a 2.09 ERA, the best for a Clemson pitcher since 1998. Opponents hit just .229 off Firth.

The Illinois native was drafted in the 32nd round by the Philadelphia Phillies, but the righty opted to come back to Clemson for his senior season. In three seasons with the Tigers, Firth has an 11-2 record and a 2.81 ERA in 134.1 innings of work.

Firth is one of Clemson's four co-captains for the 2013 season.

The Tigers open the season Feb. 14 with a three-game series against William & Mary at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
