Gamecocks take game one of doubleheader to win series

The Gamecocks won their first SEC series of the 2013 season over Missouri.

COLUMBIA, MO (WACH)- Nolan Belcher continued his dominance on the mound throwing 8.1 scoreless innings as the No. 5 Gamecocks defeated Missouri 2-0 in game one of their doubleheader Saturday.  USC improved to 17-2 and 2-0 in the SEC.

The Gamecocks got on the board in the third after Joey Pankake's single to right scored Max Schrock.  USC added another run in the fifth when Chase Vergason hit his third home run of the season.

Belcher and Tyler Webb held the Tigers to zero runs on just five hits.

The Gamecocks dropped game two of the doubleheader 4-0.

USC will hit the road again Tuesday when they take on The Citadel.  First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.
