USC blasts Ball State for second straight day

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) - Sixth ranked South Carolina scored six runs in the first three innings and scored seven more in the bottom of the eighth on the way to a 14-4 win over Ball State Wednesday afternoon at Carolina Stadium.

South Carolina improves to 10-2 on the year while Ball State drops to 5-6 for the season.

South Carolina pounded out 14 hits in the win. Eight Gamecock position starters had at least one hit. Joey Pankake went 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBI, including a home run for a second straight game.

South Carolina reliever Patrick Sullivan worked 3.2 innings in relief of starter Curt Britt to earn the win. Sullivan allowed one run on five hits with two walks and five strikeouts.

Sophomore center fielder Tanner English had to leave the game in the bottom of the third inning with a right shoulder injury.

The Gamecocks are back in action Friday at 7pm when they open a three-game series with Rider at Carolina Stadium.
