COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) - The South Carolina baseball team pounded out 14 hits in a 10-0 win over Ball State at Carolina Stadium on Tuesday.

Freshman left-hander Jack Wynkoop retired the first 16 batters he faced and allowed just two hits in six innings of work, striking out five and walking no batters. Wynkoop is now 2-0 on the year.

South Carolina broke open the game 3-0 in the bottom of the second inning. Connor Bright led off the inning with a base hit up the middle followed by a single from Dante Rosenberg. Tanner English smashed a hit into the gap in right-center scoring Bright. Graham Saiko followed that with an RBI single.

Joey Pankake delivered a three-run home run in the fourth inning to give the Gamecocks a 7-0 lead.

After Tuesday's game, head coach Chad Holbrook announced sophomore left-hander Jordan Montgomery will be shut down for two weeks because he is experiencing a stress reaction in his pitching arm.

The loss comes at critical time, as the Gamecocks are set to open SEC play next weekend with a three-game series at Missouri. Montgomery, South Carolina's Friday night starter, is 3-0 this season and has struck out 19 batters in 19 innings of work. Opponents are hitting just .188 off the left-hander.

The sophomore from Sumter has a 0.95 ERA on the season.
