CLEMSON, S.C. (WACH) - Shane Kennedy's two-out, two-run blast in the eighth inning helped deliver an opening day win for Clemson.

That home run was the only offense Clemson needed in Friday's 2-0 win over William & Mary at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.

Clemson pitcher Daniel Gossett did not factor in the decision after he struck out six, allowed just four hits, no runs, and one walk in 6.2 innings pitched. Clay Bates, the third of four Clemson pitchers to take the mound, earned his first career win after pitching 1.1 scoreless innings.

Clemson and William & Mary are set to play game two of the three-game series at Doug Kingsmore Stadium Saturday at 2:00pm.
