COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP/ WACH) -- A South Carolina legislator acknowledges he faces a drunken driving charge from a stop along Interstate 77 last October.

Democratic Rep. Bakari Sellers told The Associated Press on Wednesday that a sheriff's officer stopped him in Chester County after the South Carolina-Georgia football game.

Sellers says he was headed to Charlotte, N.C., to visit family members after the Oct. 6 night game.

WACH FOX News found online court records that show Sellers paid a $997 bond on Oct. 8.

The Denmark Democrat says he's going through the process like anyone else charged with first-offense driving under the influence.

Sellers says he had a provisional license that allowed him to drive to work until his license was fully reinstated last month.
