SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) -- Investigators say a 30-year-old Spartanburg mother has been charged with five counts of child neglect for keeping her children in a home filled with trash and animal waste.

Sheriff's deputies say an officer went to Amy Henderson's home Monday after finding one of the children walking down the street naked with a hammer.

Authorities say the home was filled with trash and flies. They say the bathtub could not be used because it was filled will with cat waste and the family dumped its own waste out of a hole in the wall because the toilet wasn't working.

The children, ages 10, 9, 4, 2 and 4 months old were taken into protective custody. Henderson was awaiting a bond hearing. It wasn't known if she had an attorney.
