CHARLOTTE, NC (WACH) - Former Gamecock football star Eric Norwood announced through Twitter on Monday that his time with the Carolina Panthers has come to a close.
Norwood was selected by the Panthers in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL draft after graduating from the University of South Carolina with a degree in criminal justice.
In two seasons with the Panthers, Norwood played in 24 games, logged 19 tackles and one sack, according to the Panthers' website. He registered two tackles in the 2012 pre-season.
Norwood tweeted around noon Monday, "I am no longer a member of the Carolina Panthers but I would like to thank the coaches, players and fans for the opportunity that was given."
There are reports on the Panthers' website that Norwood had been sitting out of practice. Around Aug. 14, Head coach Ron Rivera said Norwood was having an MRI on his knee.
According to cbssports.com, Norwood missed a week of practice during training camp.
He only played in one 2012 preseason game against the Texans; sitting out against Miami and the Jets.
At the University of South Carolina, Norwood is the all-time leader in tackles for loss with 54.5. He also set a school record with 29 career sacks.
