Orangeburg (WACH)- Many athletes dream about making it to the Olympics.  Seymour Walter hopes that he can make that dream a reality.

The sophomore track star at SC State University making noise by writing his name into the Bulldog history books.  On June 2nd at Vanderbilt University, Walter broke the Virgin Islands national record in the 800 meter event, previously held by former Bulldog Terry Charles.

"I knew it was in me, but I didn't know it would come this soon," Walter said.

Walter caught the attention of his coaches since they recruited him coming out of high school.

"He's one of those extraordinary kids that listens," assistant track and field coach Jebreh Harris said.  "A lot of athletes are talented physically, but not every athlete listens and that can take a person a lot further than what they could probably do physically."

Walter will compete in the 2012 North American, Central American and Caribbean Under-23 Championships July 7-9 in Mexico with hopes of qualifying for the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

"For me to represent my country would be one of the greatest accomplishments of my life," Walter said.  "It doesn't matter what sport you compete in, once you make it there, you know you're good at something."
