COLUMBIA (WACH) -  Eric Hyman isn't switching leagues, but he is switching jobs.

Hyman resigned Friday as USC's athletics director, and will accept the same job at Texas A & M.

In a statement, Hyman said ""I am very excited for the opportunity to help transition Texas A&M into the Southeastern Conference.  While this is a tremendous opportunity, the downside is leaving all the dedicated and loyal fans in Gamecock Nation and the best athletic department in the country.  Pauline and I have loved living in Columbia. It will be sad to leave all the wonderful friends we have made."

During his seven years in Columbia, the Gamecocks enjoyed great athletic success. The baseball team under coach Ray Tanner won two national titles and played for a third before falling to Arizona at the College World Series earlier this month.  The football team won a program-record 11 games last fall, the women's basketball team reached the Sweet 16 this past season, and Hyman made a splash by hiring Frank Martin to take over the men's basketball team.

Hyman has experience in the Lone Star State.  He was Athletics Director at TCU in Fort Worth before coming to Columbia.

Texas A&M officially joins the SEC July 1 (Sunday).
