COLUMBIA (WACH) - South Carolina men's basketball coach Darrin Horn has signed point guard Brenton Williams (5-11 - Kissimmee, Fla./Sante Fe College) to a National Letter of Intent.

After last year's leading scorer Bruce Ellington decided to join the football team, Horn said bringing in another point guard was essential. Ellington says he does plan to return to the team after football season is over. However - he will most likely miss a majority of the basketball preseason due to overlapping schedules.

Williams averaged 11.8 points and 1.9 assists in 22 minutes per game at Sante Fe College.

He was a three-year varsity starter at Osceola High School in Kissimmee, Fla. Williams was named Orange Belt All-Conference as a sophomore, averaging 14.3 points, 3.8 assists and 2.1 rebounds per contest.

"Brenton is an athletic guard who has a great ability to make shots. He will fit in well with how we want to play,” said Horn.

Williams has three years of eligibility left to play.

Horn has lost three players since the Gamecocks ended a 14-16 season.
