COLUMBIA (WACH) -- South Carolina has a big bug problem according to a new national survey.
BASF, a pesticide company, ranks the Palmetto State 10th in the U.S. for bug infestation problems including ants, termites and cockroaches.
Glenn Matthews with the Modern Exterminating Company in Columbia says the city has the perfect conditions to make bugs feel right at home.
"It's humid. We have ponds, lakes, wooded areas that are conductive to pests, harborage to pest reproduction, so I'm really not surprised that we are 10th on the list and I'm thinking next year will be even higher," Matthews says.
According to the survey, the state with the worst reputation for its insects is Florida.
