COLUMBIA, SC -- The groundwork is being laid for Columbia International University's first athletic program in its 87-year history.  They'll start with men's and women's basketball, soccer and women's volleyball.  The school may add cross-country down the road.

"We're starting with programs that are cost effective for us," says CIU President Bill Jones.  "We want to produce those students that have a real, Christ-like character and they have a platform of athletics."

Jones says he wants the competition to start at CIU by the fall of 2010.
