(AP) -- COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Both Clemson and South Carolina have players on The Associated Press All-America first team.

Clemson running back C.J. Spiller was selected as the team's all-purpose player, while South Carolina's Eric Norwood was picked as a linebacker.

The AP team was announced Tuesday.

It appears to be the first time the state's two major football schools have placed players on the AP All-America team in the same season.

Clemson defensive lineman Gaines Adams was the last Tiger to make first-team All-America in 2006. South Carolina has not had a first-team AP performer since offensive lineman Del Wilkes and linebacker James Seawright were named in 1984.
