ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) -- A man has pleaded guilty but mentally ill in the death of a Belton man more than a year ago.
Walter Chase Alley pleaded guilty on Tuesday in court in Anderson.
Sheriff's deputies say 86-year-old Glenn Craft was beaten and shot to death on July 18, 2011, when four people broke into his home. Volunteers taking food to Craft found his body.
Circuit Judge J.C. Nicholson sentenced Alley to 37 years in prison.
The other three co-defendants are awaiting trial.
Craft's great-grandson, 18-year-old Charles Bell, and 27-year-old Holly Kristin Whitfield are each charged with robbery and murder. Twenty-three-year-old Charlie Tyler Robinson is charged with robbery, murder and a weapons violation.
